New Poetry At The Diary

I have decided to post some poetry here, because, well, I can't update the Sparkle Poetry Gallery for some (undoubtedly absurd) reason. This site is in desperate need of promotion and an update. The last few months have been very difficult personally, and I'm sorry I haven't been more attentive. Please enjoy.

Travel Fairytale

By Jane Hope

"We're eating up the miles," you say
As if distance could be swallowed
The cars march like honest ants
Ballasted with responsibility.
Road signs are menacing monsters
Sent to guard bridges like trolls of old
"Go back or face our fearsome jaws!"
Panicking, I realize these woods are unsafe
And see wolves behind every tree.

I must look upset
Because you ask me what?s wrong
I tell you about the trolls ahead
You say that I'm overreacting.

Goodnight

by Jane Hope

The snow crunches under our feet
As you tread in my footprints
Navigating a slippery path to sanctuary

I fumble with the skeleton key
Warm from my innermost jacket pocket
Worn next to my heart, like a talisman
At least it was kept safe
So we could burst through the door
Into a pool of yellowed light
Which brings colour to our cheeks
Just like the snow outside did.

You say my name. Softly.
But it sounds like a drum
And I look at you.
I have summer icecream hands
Amd your mouth is like a rainbow
Bleeding into the world's colour
And then we realize we are uncomfortable
So you say goodnight
And I tell you not to slip
On my icy icy porch
Then you are gone.

Following You

By Jane Hope

I'm following you
I always follow you
You, a sun and a sunspot
A meal of equal parts
Vinegar, sugar and olives
But life is no devil's sabbat

The path you took
Is dusty but well worn
And it leads to a mighty house
The door as barred to me
You disappear into the parlour
And the sun goes into eclipse
